The heat has arrived. The climate crisis brings us one of the hottest summers in history. This week we will exceed 30 degrees in a large part of the peninsula, showing that the temperatures experienced last summer mark the trend of a progressive increase in the climatic framework that we will experience in Spain in the coming years.
Given this, cities must adapt to offer spaces in which to find climate refuges that allow the population to overcome the crisis we are experiencing in the best possible way.
The placement of awnings and sun protection systems allows the interior temperature to be reduced by 10ºC, depending on the color of the awning and the material with which it is made, helping to reduce the use of air conditioning by up to 40%, directly impacting energy consumption and therefore on our electricity bill.
Thus, for example, by installing high-density awnings, we were able to create a barrier against the sun that blocks the passage of ultraviolet and infrared rays between the 90% and the 99%, reducing the sensation of heat and improving thermal comfort while achieving greater energy efficiency.
This, together with a correct choice of fabric color, allows us to find true climatic refuges in homes from the heat we experience. Increasing their effectiveness will depend, for example, on the use of cold tones to create a more refreshing sensation, which, together with current home automation solutions, allow openings and closings to be programmed depending on the weather.
At Grupo Afandecor, we have a team with more than 20 years of experience in the production and installation of awnings, bioclimatic pergolas and other solar protection systems, specialized in designing and offering personalized solutions adapted to each space with the help of professionals.
